Turks and Caicos has a colorful, rich history and culture providing visitors with a great array of exciting places to visit. Sightseeing in Turks and Caicos is enhanced by the overall beauty of th Islands, covered in rich botanical life, undisturbed beaches and an impressive bird population. Aside from a serene setting, graced with beaches and nature trails, Turks and Caicos offers many exotic places of interest, some of which you will find on our site.

When planning a trip to Turks and Caicos, be sure to book your stay with us!

National Parks

With the most extensive National Parks system in the Caribbean, the Turks and Caicos Islands have set aside 33 protected areas including National Parks, Nature Reserves, Sanctuaries and Historical Sites covering 325 square miles.  These parks include vital wetlands, coral reefs, mangrove estuaries and important breeding and nesting grounds for birds and other wildlife.  To really appreciate the spectacular natural phenomena that make these islands "Beautiful by Nature," get out and enjoy the parks.

Turks and Caicos Museum

The only museum in the Turks & Caicos Islands is located on the island of Grand Turk, which is also the capital of the country. It is certainly well worth a day trip to visit! It is open Monday through Saturday at $5.00 per person. The museum is highly professional, exhibiting the cultural history of the islands, their discovery and the impact of the early European settlement.

Rated as one of the top ten small museums in the world, the museum is housed in a restored historical dwelling known as Guinep House along Front Street.  Inside, there are in-depth displays of the Molasses Reef Ship Wreck (the oldest known in the Western Hemisphere), Lucayan Artifacts and other items of historical interest.

Take a flight over to Grand Turk form the International Airport at Providenciales on one of the local airlines. A return flight costs about $200.00 and so it may be worthwhile staying the night and taking a tour of Grand Turk after the museum... and see where Columbus first stepped ashore in the New World!

The Hole

Take a trip out to Long Bay and take in a breathtaking and heart-stopping attraction known as "The Hole".  This natural phenomenon is a giant sinkhole measuring 40 feet across and 80 feet deep.  Once an underground cavern, the ceiling of this structure collapsed creating an impressive crater dropping 10`s of feet into deep ground waters.  While the sheer drop makes for an impressive sight, this attraction is not for the faint-hearted or precocious small children.

Iguana Island

The only way to see Iguana Island (or rather "Little Water Cay") is by boat. There are numerous boat operators but we strongly recommend SAIL PROVO who will include a trip to Little Water Cay on one of their cruises. Iguana Island/ Little Water Cay is just across the Leeward channel from the island of Providenciales and it takes about ten minutes to get there by a motor boat and rather longer by sail. It has been declared a sanctuary for the Rock Iguanas and home to several ospreys that nest there as well. There is a $5.00 entry fee that goes towards the National Trust whose guides will direct you along the broad walks to see the many iguanas that inhabit this Cay.

Caicos Conch Farm

The Turks & Caicos Islands boast the only commercial conch farm in the world! Located at the eastern tip of Providenciales the conch farm has been in operation since 1984. The Queen Conch is a beautiful pink-lipped shellfish. Its meat has long been a staple food  throughout the Caribbean but only on Providenciales is it grown commercially. On other islands in the Caribbean is develops naturally and is harvested by fishermen. The conch shell is commonly seen decorating homes and can be made into exquisite jewellery. Tourists often carry a conch shell back to their homes in colder climes! There are guided tours of the conch farm, which also boasts the world`s only Conch Boutique!

The Cheshire Hall Plantation

The Cheshire Hall Plantation is an historic, 18th century plantation ruin open to the public. There is a $5 fee for a guided tour. Time well-spent.

JOJO The Dolphin

Come see the Providenciales`s most famous resident, JOJO!
JOJO is an Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphin that has been swimming with visitors in Grace Bay since the early 1980`s. He prefers humans to other dolphins and can be sighted somewhere along Grace Bay nearly every day. He is a wild dolphin and so people are advised to be cautious but he often comes to greet people and will follow boats and play in their wake. JOJO is a national treasure and even has his own website. To learn more about JOJO go to http://www.marinewildlife.org/

Green Flash

On days when the sky is clear of cloud and the air is clear, just as the sun is about to set below the horizon of the ocean, there are times when you will see a sudden "Green Flash" from your vantage on the beach or even at one of the local bars at Happy Hour!
You must never stare directly at the sun until it touches the horizon but then stare at the disk until it disappears... and the last rays of the sun to disappear are green! Keep an eye out for it.

Frolicking Glow Worms

Each month, one of the most romantic displays takes place in the shallow waters of the Caicos Banks between the third and sixth day after the full moon.  A natural phenomena triggered by the light of the waning moon inspires small invertebrates knows as "Glow Worms" to engage in their illuminating mating rituals.  As the female releases her eggs and the male fertilizes them, a brilliant luminescent green is emitted and works its way up to the surface of the water.
